Behind the Blog - Jaclyn

8/18/2014

Today for behind the blog we have Jaclyn from Beauty and the Binky.
I hope you enjoy getting to know her!

My name is Jaclyn and I have to start by saying: to know me is to KNOW me. I have a very open personality with little secrets or "privacy". I tend to be on the odd side, mostly because I have no sense of personal space or boundaries. I'm loud, I share too much information, and my humor just isn't the same as everyone else's. I try to keep an open mind and let knowledge be my guide in all decisions and opinions. I find logic and wisdom to be the most soothing thing for my over-thinking, worrying, scattered brain! I'm a pretty optimistic person, with a  hard-headed perseverance like nobody's business.

I am married to the most patient and trustworthy man that I've ever met. I won't get all mushy on you, but feel free to read the post about our wedding ceremony (complete with our own wedding vows and pictures!) to better understand how amazing my husband is. Not only is he an amazing husband, he's also an amazing dad to our one year old son. Our son, Owen, is one part firecracker like his mom and two parts charmingly shy like his dad. He was conceived about a month and a half after we met and I'm still not sure if I'm just dreaming or if this fairy tale really is mine to keep. I'm drafting a blog post for more on this story, so I cant give much more away! Let me just say that life has no accidents, only deliberate acts of destiny that can sweep you off your feet and plant you right where you were supposed to be all along.

Since all of my family is in California and I'm in Texas, I have quite a few close girl friends that sub as my family! I've been friends with them for anywhere from 4 years to 17 years! My best friend, Heather, and I have been friends for 17 years now! We've gone through every walk of life together and I'm so grateful to experience such a strong friendship that knows no limits. I make a big effort to stay close to each of my girl friends, so I'm proud to say that I'm still close to each of them!
I'm a teacher by nature, always explaining away and trying to guide people. I have a degree in education and I am the director of a Sylvan Learning Center. After student teaching, I have yet to step foot into a classroom and I sincerely doubt that I ever will. I have a strong passion for education reform and I want to see it happen before I can believe in what I'm doing (or would be doing) in a classroom. At Sylvan, I have the chance to get it right, to fix whatever went wrong in education for a child, and to lower the number of struggling students. I also manage the entire center, including employees, sales, accounting, marketing, and so much more. I've enjoyed the sales and marketing aspect of my position so much that I'm contemplating a Master's in something more business-related than education-related, which will be a big step outside of my comfort zone!

As a working mom, I knew I would need extra motivation to get ready every day and look my best. It's important to me to present myself in a way that represents me well. Shortly after having my son, I joined Instagram (@BeautyandtheBinky) and dived deep into the secret fashion world that exists behind hashtags and selfies. I've had an amazing journey on Instagram and I've become a much more fashionable person through that journey! Getting dressed has become a joy for me and can easily be listed as one of my "hobbies". I also love to read and to write. Reading exposes me to so many emotions and thoughts that I sometimes feel as though I've learned more life lessons in books than I have in life! Writing is a necessity for me. From early on, I've needed to write things down. From checklists and reminders to deep feelings expressed via good ol' pen and paper, I've never been able to catalog those things in my mind.
All of these things come together to lead me to blogging. I want to spread knowledge in all walks of my life, I love to write (and NEED to write), and I would love to pass on motivation and encouragement. On my blog, I'll mostly talk about beauty/fashion and mommyhood. For example, I have posted about how I use Instagram as inspiration for outfit ideas and I've posted a 10 week series on breast feeding. I also share posts about my life, like the post about my wedding ceremony with my husband. For me, blogging is an opportunity to help educate and motivate women (especially other mommas)! If I can help just one momma successfully breast feed or motivated just one woman to dress well for her own confidence and self-representation, then I will feel like I've moved mountains.
