High Five Friday
1/31/2014
Here we are for another High Five Friday post brought to you by Meg over at A Dash Of Meg!
Our high five for this week is a very exciting one for us.
You know how there are two sides to breast feeding? The dark scary side where you question if you are able to do it, and the side where you go okay I got this. Well this week we made it to the other side. Nursing Lilly is no longer a chore, it is now our special time together.

My daughter is not an accessory.

I love to wear Lilly, and I am not shy about it.
I mean should I be?
But just because I wear my daughter doesn't mean I think she is an accessory.
I probably shouldn't even address the people that make comments like "I will never wear my baby, they are not an accessory", but I just cant help myself.
I probably shouldn't even address the people that make comments like "I will never wear my baby, they are not an accessory", but I just cant help myself.
First- You REALLY should educate yourself before you state your opinion on a topic.
Second- You shouldnt judge another parents decisions.
Especially when you do not have a child of your own.
&
Third- I do not have the extra time to worry about how well I am
accessorized around my home (which is mostly where I wearing Lilly).
So here is why I do wear my baby.
Those early months can be really hard at times. Lilly woud crying scream and all she wanted was to be held. While I loved holding my girl, it turns out I needed my hands to do important things like eating. This is where the sling came into our lives. She would sleep curled on my chest while I ate, or cleaned, or even just sat on the couch watching tv. But I was no longer tied down. I instantly fell in love.
We now use it at home when she just wants to be held but I have things to get done. This typically happens when she is teething, when she needs comfort. Baby wearing gives me the ability to comfort her while still getting things done.
The sling also comes very in handy when we head out of the house. Instead of lugging a car seat and a stroller around, I just throw her into the sling and go.
But making my life easier isnt the only reason for baby wearing, there are many medical benefits to wearing that little nugget.
It was found that baby wearing reduced crying in infants by 43% overall!
When babies are happier they are able to learn more. Because babies are not crying and distracted they are more alert, able to take in more visual and audio stimulation. They are able to see what mom and dad see, and be involved in their caregivers world. They are able to learn from facial expresions, voice tones, and emotions. All this interaction encourages the babies brain to grow, and helps the brain to make the right neurological connections when developing. It is even shown that speech development is enhanced in babies who were worn.
Being close to mom also helps baby regulate their breathing, this is especially beneficial to preemie babies. If worn in a position against the chest, the sounds of mommy's heart remind the baby of the womb and it feel secure. When a child is soothed by its caregiver they will less likely to be colicky, suck their thumb, or have other anxious behaviors.
There are also benefits to the childs spine, head shape, your physical health, and creating a bond.
I am so thankful to have found a sling that Lilly and I both enjoy. I cherish our moments where she is so close, the moments I can watch her explore the world around her. While she is beautiful, she isn't my accessory. She is my daughter, and the most beautiful thing I have ever done in my life.
The Birth of Lilly Joyce
1/20/2014
I started to write Lilly's birth story to accompany these amazing photos by Morgan Ramirez Photography, but who am I kidding, the pictures tell the story better than I ever could.
Lilly Joyce was born at 8:41 AM on August 2nd, 2013.
She was 6.5 Pounds and 18 Inches of perfection
Austin caught her and brought her up to my chest. In a room full of people all I saw were those two. It was without a doubt the most magical moment of my life and I will forever be thankful to Morgan for capturing it. I hold these photos near and dear to my heart, I hope you enjoy them as well.
High Five Friday
1/17/2014
This week is a insane week in our household and pushing through it is reason to celebrate.
On Sunday we made it to our first day of church as a family of three! A success on its own, but when you throw in that Lilly did not throw one fit despite it being nap time, WOOHOO!
Lilly has decided the switch her days and nights. After waking her up and shortening her naps we finally got her to sleep a little more Wednesday night. Here to hoping we can keep this up. Mama needs some rest!
I also started Valentines items for the shop which will hopefully be posted by the end of the week, I also cranked out an extra large order. Can we say busy busy busy?!
What do you deserve a high five for this week?

Hello!
1/15/2014
Hello & Welcome to the Little Lilly Bits blog!
Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Sara, I am a Navy wife and a stay at home mom to one precious baby girl. In 2011 I quickly and quietly married my best friend less than a month after his proposal, and only 10 days before his first deployment. When he returned home 7 months later we had a beautiful wedding, and went on a week long honeymoon to Alaska. A few short months later we packed up our little apartment and moved to Southern California where we currently live. This August we welcomed out first child Lilly into the world, and our lives have been turned upside down since then.
I have always been intrigued by blogging, and always secretly wished to join the blog world. After much encouragement and many people saying they would love to read a blog from me I figured to give it a shot. As a avid crafter, cloth diapering mama, baby wearer, breast feeding, military wife I there will be a wide variety of topics I cover on this blog and I hope there is something to touch every reader that find themselves on my page.
What about you devoted and experienced bloggers? Any tips for a technologically challenged beginner like me?
